Abortion Pill

If you are considering taking the Abortion Pill, remember this is a medication and should be done with direct medical supervision.  Your personalized plan should start with a medical verification of pregnancy. This would include a free medical grade pregnancy test, ultrasound and consultation with a nurse to discuss your options. 1 Some common questions that you may have are listed here.  Please note, this information is provided for educational purposes only, and should not be used to diagnose or make an abortion decision. Schedule your free appointment to talk with a nurse here.

What is the abortion pill and how does it work?

A medical abortion occurs after taking two pills. Each pill contains a different medicine, mifepristone and misoprostol. This is how they work:

Mifepristone stops a woman’s womb from being able to absorb progesterone, which the pregnancy and baby need to survive. This blocking of progesterone causes the uterine lining that’s been built up for the pregnancy to begin breaking down.2

Misoprostol causes contractions, which helps the woman deliver the fetus. This process is typically complete within 24-48 hours after the second pill is ingested and causes extreme bleeding and strong cramping. The abortion pill reversal is not effective after misoprostol is taken.3

Having a medical abortion is a major decision. If you’re considering this procedure, make sure you understand what it entails, side effects, possible risks, complications and alternatives. At TruCare we can answer all these questions for you, call us today and set up a free appointment.

How far into my pregnancy can I take the Abortion Pill?

The Abortion Pill is approved for use only up to a certain number of weeks into a pregnancy. Therefore, it is critical to determine how far along you are in your pregnancy with an ultrasound, which we can provide for you free of cost.4

Are there risks or side effects for the Abortion Pill?

All medications have certain potential risks or side effects. We can help you learn all about how it works and the potential risks during your appointment. We do not administer the abortion pill.  Our services are focused on providing you with a medical pregnancy verification and consultation with a nurse.

Can I get the Abortion Pill online?

Texas law does not permit this. In addition, we strongly advise women against buying abortion drugs over the internet because there are serious risks that can be hazardous to your health. There is no way to guarantee you’re getting the right kind of medication, and some websites may even sell fake pills not subject to FDA approval and safety regulations.5

Can I change my mind after taking the Abortion Pill?

In some cases, it may be possible for the effects of the first of the two abortion pills to be reversed, but only after taking the first pill. 6However, it is a very time-sensitive medical protocol, so if you or someone you know has taken the first pill and have changed your mind, please call 877-558-0333 immediately to speak to healthcare professional.
